N.C. troops welcome country music stars
Posted : Monday Jul 7, 2008 6:55:52 EDT
FORT BRAGG, N.C. — North Carolina’s two major military bases are planning big Fourth of July events to honor troops who have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Fort Bragg will host country music star Wynonna Judd during a free concert, along with food and carnival rides on the main parade field. The Army post also will hold a flag ceremony, skydiving demonstrations and fireworks.
The Marines will host country music star Lee Ann Womack at Camp Lejeune. Marines and their families also will be treated to children’s activities, music and fireworks.
There are about 100,000 troops stationed at the two bases.
Camp Lejeune recreation manager Patsy Schneider said the celebration recognizes the dedication of service members and their families as well as the nation’s beginnings.
